Matt Burns

In 2007, I was working as a firefighter/paramedic for the San Diego Fire Department when a good friend of mine from the police department offered a free spot to something called a “Level 1 CrossFit Certification seminar”. As one who would never turn down something free, I was off to my first CrossFit workout: Fight Gone Bad. I thought I was in pretty good shape, but just about everyone else in the class beat me. From then on I was hooked: I committed myself to CrossFit and immersed myself in the culture.

Three years later, I was ready to retire from the fire department and try something new. With my family’s support, we moved to Minnesota in 2010 and began our new adventure. Before starting on my coaching journey, I wanted to get as much training as possible so I could to provide my clients with the best experience. Today I hold the following active certifications:

  • Certified CrossFit Level 3 Trainer (CF-L3)
  • Weightlifting Certificate
  • Powerlifting Certificate
  • Gymnastics Certificate
  • Kettlebell Certificate
  • Endurance Certificate
  • Football Certificate
  • Running Certificate
  • Anatomy Certificate
  • Defense Athletes Certificate
  • Lesson Planning Certificate
  • Mobility Certificate
  • Scaling Certificate
  • Spot The Flaw Certificate
  • Completed Coach’s Development Program

CrossFit Woodbury has grown into something I’m extremely proud of: a very vibrant community that provides more than just a great fitness option to our athletes. We do fund raising workouts throughout the year for worthy causes, from Breast Cancer through the Barbells For Boobs foundation to military scholarship programs through the Tillman Foundation and Memorial Day Murph.
